March 19, 2012

A breakfast and discussion with three curators, Laura Roulet, Amy Lipton, and Justine Topfer, from 5×5, a temporary public art initiative that resulted in twenty- five ground-breaking temporary public art installations throughout the DC, commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. ArtTable member Roulet engaged all eight wards and reached many diverse audiences with works by Ben Ashworth, the Floating Lab Collective, Charles Juhasz- Alvarado, Patrick McDonough, and Wilmer Wilson IV. Lipton, whose curatorial focus over the past several years has been on contemporary art and its relationship to the natural world, curated works by Natalie Jeremijenko, Tattfoo Tan, Brandon BallengĂ©e, Chrysanne Stathacos, and Habitat or Artists. Topfer is an international curator based in San Francisco with a particular interest in public art. Selected artists were Monica Canilao, Jefferson Pinder, Rebar, Reko Rennie, and Clare Rojas.
