 JOB DESCRIPTION

A consulting archivist will be retained for the project on a contract basis, overseeing the development of collection-level description and developing the three-year implementation plan and Move Handbook. This collection is reflective of the New York Movement in Contemporary Native American Art and Amerinda as steward. In addition to Archivist and Curator (David Martine), one curator/scholar (G. Peter Jemison-Heron Clan Seneca), a second theater/performing arts/scholar (Hanay Geiogamah -Kiowa/Delaware) will be welcomed to the site to examine items of interest and to develop the final scholarly assessment document.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Consulting Archivist will establish a set of guidelines for AMERINDA staff, interns, and volunteers to use in writing collection-level descriptions for archival material at both the East Village and the Iron Mountain, Edison, NJ locations. • Digitization Plan: Consultant Archivist will prepare this document in close consultation with Project Director, and the visiting scholars.

• Relocation of Archive: In consultation, the Consulting Archivist and the Project Director will identify and enter into discussions with cultural institutions with the resources to serve as an appropriate host site for long-term loan of the collections currently stored at the Greenwich Village office location.

• Three-Year (2026-29) Implementation Plan: After the new host location for the archive has been identified, the Consulting Archivist will prepare a plan for deeper arrangement and description of the archival materials, cataloging of the collection items at Iron Mountain, and development and dissemination of finding aids.

• Move Handbook: Consultant Archivist will prepare a Move Handbook that will provide a step-by-step process for addressing all aspects of the move of the collections to the host institution.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Archives/Collections, Art History of closely related program from accredited college or university
• Experience in mentoring staff or coaching
• Familiarity with current archival standards
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Familiarity with collection management and digitization of collections/archives
• Familiarity will collection management software
