Highlights of the Itinerary
Lisbon
Our journey begins in Lisbon, a city that effortlessly blends old-world charm with modern cultural influence. Over three days, we’ll visit the iconic Museu Nacional de Azulejo, a remarkable museum housed in the former Convento Madre de Deus, and the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, which is home to the exceptional private art collection of Calouste Gulbenkian, a wealthy Armenian collector known for his unerring eye and wide-ranging taste. We’ll also tour the Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia and Museu de Arte Contemporânea, experiencing the city’s dynamic contemporary art scene. Each day will offer time to savor Lisbon’s celebrated cuisine in local restaurants and cafés, and we will stay at the Lapa Palace, built in the 18th century and later renovated into a luxury hotel that is centrally located and offers unparalleled views of the city’s historic quarter.
Porto
Next, we travel to Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city, renowned for its art and wine culture. We will visit the Fundação de Serralves, a prominent cultural institution in Porto whose mission is to promote contemporary art and its associated disciplines. We’ll enjoy a river cruise along the Douro River, offering a unique view of the picturesque valley and its famed vineyards. We will also visit the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis, Portugal’s first designated national museum, founded in 1833 to showcase works of art from dissolved monasteries and convents, including a valuable collection of paintings, glass, ceramics, and jewelry. We conclude our tour with a tasting and farewell dinner at the historic Graham’s Port Lodge, where we’ll explore its impressive collection of port wine barrels and enjoy a selection of port tastings paired with local cuisine.
