ArtTable members in SoCal enjoyed a private tour of the Grinstein Family Art Collection. This prolific collection was a lifetime passion for Elyse and Stanley Grinstein, who collected art for over 50 years. Elyse, an architect, and Stanley, a cofounder of Gemini G.E.L., the landmark publisher of artist editions, are widely beloved for their support of art and artists.

In addition to a tour of the grounds and the home’s first floor, members chatted with members of the Grinstein family about the collection and their relationship with the many represented artists, such as Oldenburg, Lichtenstein, and Rauschenberg, just to name a few.

Members in Philadelphia came together for a holiday gathering at InLiquid! Enjoying light refreshments and a special opportunity to view photographer Ada Trillo’s exhibition Young Americans.

ArtTable’s Northwest Chapter invited members and guests to celebrate the holidays by spending a virtual evening with esteemed artist Barbara Earl Thomas. She was joined in conversation by Nina Bozicnik, Curator at the Henry Art Gallery, to discuss the exhibition, Packaged Black: Derrick Adams and Barbara Earl Thomas.

This special event included a Q&A with the artist and curator, as well as a raffle and networking session.

Please join Doro Globus, Managing Director of David Zwirner Books, and Genevieve Martin, Director of External Affairs and Advancement at the Children’s Museum of the Arts, for a discussion on the motivation behind Globus’ newly published children’s book, Making a Great Exhibition. Globus will also talk about the publishing program at David Zwirner. We will hear more about how the program works and why it is a crucial part of the gallery’s offerings.

In Making a Great Exhibition, Globus identified a need to demystify the museum space and offer insight into how it works. Thinking beyond the finished product–the exhibition or the artwork–Globus steps back to show how many people and skills are involved along the way. She features curators, art handlers, educators, photographers, shippers, museum visitors, and more as she describes the process. Both author and illustrator, Rose Blake, were raised in the art world, spending their time in studios, doing homework in museum offices, and going to special openings. They have teamed up to share their experiences and love for this world of creative people.

Afghanistan is currently facing an incredible crisis. Since the US left the country and Taliban forces reentered, many aspects of daily life have come into question, including how the country’s cultural heritage will be affected. Just two decades ago, when the Taliban were last in power, they called for the destruction of any and all pre-Islamic statues and sanctuaries on the land. While this new regime has promised to honor Afghanistan’s cultural heritage, history makes us skeptical.

One woman who has spent many years living and traveling throughout Afghanistan, overseeing the preservation of its archaeological sites, artifacts, monuments, and museums, is Laura Tedesco, Cultural Heritage Program Manager at the U.S. Department of State. As a cultural heritage and preservation specialist, Laura has experienced firsthand the challenges of preserving art and heritage amidst conflict, an experience she shares with Anna Bottinelli, President of the Monuments Men Foundation. Join us for a discussion about the preservation of cultural heritage in Afghanistan and beyond with these two leading experts!

Join ArtTable’s NoCal Chapter for our annual Holiday Party, back in-person! We will gather at Jessica Silverman Gallery for an artist-led tour of Sadie Barnette’s exhibition Inheritance, followed by an informal opportunity to connect with the artist. Reunite with fellow ArtTable members and invite guests and prospective members to join in supporting ArtTable’s mission to advance the leadership of women in the visual arts!

The tour will run from 6:00pm – 7:00pm. Following the tour, we will gather at Bar Fluxus’ outdoor terrace for drinks and an opportunity to catch up with colleagues and friends from 7:00pm – 8:00pm. Admission includes one glass of wine or champagne.

Back in early 2020, ArtTable’s Houston Chapter was ready to launch. Members were excited about this burgeoning new chapter and a launch party was all planned. We all know what happened next. Now that the worst of the pandemic is behind us, we are excited to reconnect with each other and advance the leadership of women working in the arts in Houston.

Join ArtTable’s DC Chapter for a special evening featuring Italian duo, Goldschmied & Chiari, who are visiting the United States for the closing of their exhibition Magnifica on view at Marymount University’s Cody Gallery. Sara Goldschmied and Eleonora Chiari will give a short talk about their exhibition, along with curator Allison Nance and Cody Gallery director, Caitlin Berry. Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

December’s BreakfastTable program featured Charlotte Ickes, curator of time-based media and special projects at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. She discussed her background as an art historian and highlighted her current work at NPG. Currently, Ickes is co-curating a yearlong virtual screening and conversation series supported by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative called Viewfinder: Women’s Film and Video from the Smithsonian.
