The African contemporary art world is presently at an exciting juncture. Marrakech, the red city of Morocco is one of its main hotspots after two highly successful editions of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair and the re-opening of the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (Macaal). In Casablanca, the white city, young emerging artists are creating their own interesting scene and in 2022 it will organize the Casablanca Biennial. We combine this with stunning ceramics and fabrics in Fez and culinary delights everywhere we go. We also take in the breathtaking colors of the Sahara Desert. These experiences together create an unforgettable Grand Tour Morocco, ArtTable style.

Mosque Hassan II in Casablanca

Saturday – Sunday
It is an easy flight into Casablanca from the US. Casablanca high on the list of Art Cities to watch according to ArtNews. Rightfully so. We are lucky because–like our tour– the Casablanca Biennial also got postponed until 2022. We will enjoy a private tour there. We also ‘dive’ into the city’s emerging art scene with inspiring behind-the-scenes visits. We take in the Art Deco architecture and the splendor of one of the biggest mosques of the world. And of course we will sample our first Moroccan delicacies.

Tannery in Fez MoroccoMonday – Tuesday
During a leisurely drive, we will explore the riches of the Northern Moroccan countryside.  We make a very special visit in Rabat, the nation’s current capital,  and also stop in what once was the capital, the amazing imperial town of Meknes. We end the day in magnificent Fez where we check into our dreamy riad hotel and enjoy a glorious dinner.

Explore the enthralling riches of Fez, the oldest imperial city of Morocco, founded in 789 AC. We tour the old town Medina (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to enjoy the splendid artistry, colors, sounds, smells and sights. We will also visit one of the oldest traditional tanneries in town, and make some special behind-the-scenes visits.

Errachidia, Morocco

We spend the morning with an exciting studio visit in Fez and then make our way to the airport for a short flight South. We land in Errachidia where our desert guide will beawaiting us for a thrilling ride into the desert. To get to our luxury desert camp you can choose your mode of transportation: camel or 4×4 vehicle. We will dine under the stars while enjoying live Moroccan music before going to sleep in our gorgeously decorated tents with all the comforts we could wish for.

Todra Gorg

If you feel like rising early you can enjoy the spectacular desert sunrise! After a luscious breakfast we make our way through the desert into the Atlas Mountains to the Todra Gorg. The region is dotted with deserted kashbas, palmeries and mud-brick villages. The honey hues are a feast for the eyes. We end our day in a colorful oasis nearthe town of Ouarzazate.

An archway in Marrakesh

Morning departure to Ait Ben Haddou, probably the best-preserved Kasbah in the country, dating from the 15th century. Then we continue with a dramatic drive through Tizi n’ Tichka, enjoying breathtaking views of  Berber villages, snow caped mountains and green valleys. Expect to arrive in Marrakesh at the end of the afternoon, and check into our fantastic riad in the medina, our home for the coming days.

Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden

During our stay in Marrakesh we will focus on the thriving contemporary art scene. We will visit stunning settings as we see the work of exciting artists in their studios, and amazing collectors welcome us in their homes. We also visit great galleries and splendid museums : the Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden ( MACAAL), the Fondacion Montresso, and a special visit to the YSL Museum and its glorious gardens. We will meet inspiring professional women in the arts. And there will be  time to do some shopping in the mind-boggling labyrinth of the medina near our hotel. Lunchesand dinners will be exquisite experiences making Marrakesh a wonderful last stop on the ArtTable Grand Moroccan Tour.

Most flights back to the US or to Europe from the convenient Marrakesh airport leave mid-morning.
