JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you a creative visionary with an eye for design and a passion for art, photography, and feminist history? We’re looking for a Website & Digital Presence Art Director to help shape the online legacy of feminist artist-photographer and writer Judy Seigel whose influence helped define the Second Wave women’s art movement and the revival of 19th century photographic processes, or “altphoto.”
About the Role: In collaboration with our team, you’ll oversee the visual direction and organization of our website, working closely with a programmer to ensure seamless integration and user experience. You’ll also help guide the look and feel of our digital presence, utilizing materials from the archive, which includes photographs, videos, paintings, mixed-media works, and her written works, essays, and books. There may also be opportunities to contribute to social media content creation, though this is not a requirement.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

–Lead the design and organization of the website collaborating with the director to ensure the site effectively represents the artists’ aesthetic and artwork.
–Collaborate with the team to conceptualize and execute the visual layout, typography, and overall look of the website.
–Work with the programmer to implement design elements, making sure the site is both beautiful and workable. (The terrific programmer will make it functional and fast. )
–Awareness of current trends in web design, digital art presentation, and visual storytelling.
–Optional: Possibly assist with social media content creation, aligning the visual storytelling with the website’s design and tone (if desired).
QUALIFICATIONS

–Strong experience in art direction, web design, and digital visual storytelling.
–Proven ability to direct the design and layout of websites, with a keen understanding of connecting look and feel with the subject matter. Fine attention to detail.
–Strong photo editing and web graphics skills (Adobe Suite including LIghtroom are a must; familiarity with web platforms such as WordPress, Squarespace, or similar is a bonus).
–Experience working with a team to develop digital content, with an eye for aesthetics that will fit this artist-photographer.
–Knowledge of the current art world, especially fine arts photography, mixed media, and fine arts painting. Familiarity with women artists movements is a bonus.
–A portfolio that demonstrates your design, visual direction, and digital storytelling skills.
